Experience Cuba This Fall with Abercrombie & Kent

Travel Agent News for Abercrombie & Kent

Marking five years of offering experiential travel to Cuba,

Abercrombie & Kent introduces a new people-to-people journey for Fall 2018

DOWNERS GROVE, IL – June 11, 2018… Just 90 miles away from the United States, Cuba remains as intriguing and compelling as ever. Abercrombie & Kent has curated a new eight-day Connections program, Cuba: People to People, filled with meaningful interactions and people-to-people connections which reveal the spirit of this culturally-rich island, from the capital of Havana to the well-preserved colonial streets of Trinidad and the elegance of the coastal city of Cienfuegos.

With experience orchestrating seamless small-group travel to Cuba for guests from the United States for the past five years, A&K has access to people and cultural experiences that showcase the diversity of this intriguing destination. Learn about Cuban arts, music, sports and dining during intimate, one-on-one encounters with local residents. Visit historic locales with resident experts and meet locals where they live and work.

“We’ve built upon our experience in Cuba, as well as the rest of the world, to ensure our guests discover Cuba at its most intimate and authentic,” explains Abercrombie & Kent USA President Keith Baron. “This is essentially a ‘best-of’ itinerary that features the most highly-rated aspects of A&K’s past journeys, taking guests in depth into Havana, then south to colonial Cienfuegos and Trinidad, an UNESCO World Heritage Site that’s all but frozen in time.”

Discover Cuba in a small group of no more than 24 guests, accompanied by an expert Cuban guide and a dedicated A&K Program Director. Uncover the Havana only a long-time resident would know. Explore the city by foot with a local architect who describes the historic styles and ongoing restoration efforts, then dine with an expert in baseball to discuss this pastime’s role in Cuban society. Tour the historic Hotel Nacional with a local guide, who brings a timepiece of history to life. Visit the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de La Habana, where a local expert guides you through its renowned Cuban art collection, followed by the chance to experience Cuba’s rich musical history first hand with a private concert by the Cuban Institute of Music.

Gain a deeper understanding of the island’s cultural traditions through its art and music. Attend musical demonstrations, from a Cuban choir to an Afro-Cuban performance, meeting afterward with the musicians, singers and dancers. At Cienfuegos Graphic Workshop, meet young experts who are skilled in the arts of serigraphy and screen-printing. Browse Trinidad’s local marketplace at leisure, seeing intricate, hand-sewn table cloths, colorful papier-mâché models and local handicrafts.

From sugar to tobacco to fishing, discover Cuba’s strong ties to the land and sea. Learn the process of tobacco production, including how leaves are fermented and selected – a stage completed only by women – during visits to local tobacco farms. Gain insight into daily life and farming practices from the owners and farmers of an organic farm during a home-cooked country lunch. Explore the “valley of the sugar mills” near Trinidad and interact with fishermen during a catamaran cruise of Cienfuegos’ bay.
