City of Valdez, Alaska, Offers $50 Aummer Travel Voucher for Visitors

Valid at more than 30 Valdez tourism businesses, voucher makes
a more affordable Alaska adventure a reality this summer

VALDEZ, Alaska – As if cascading waterfalls, a variety of wildlife and endless adventure weren’t reason enough to discover Valdez, Alaska, this summer, the city has launched a new travel incentive to make it more affordable for visitors to take that dream Alaska vacation this summer. The City of Valdez is offering $50 summer travel vouchers, redeemable now through Sept. 30, 2021.

Vouchers can be used at more than 30 participating Valdez businesses, including hotels and RV parks, restaurants, tour operators, museums and shops. While vouchers are limited to one per person, families or groups can save big by having each individual obtain a voucher to use on a variety of experiences, such as a hotel stay, fishing charter, kayaking tour, tasty meal featuring fresh Alaska seafood, glacier and wildlife viewing cruise or shopping for the perfect Valdez keepsake.

“For a small town that depends so much on tourism, the decline in travel over the last 14 months due to COVID-19 had a major impact on the Valdez economy. Now people are ready to pack their bags and explore the world again, and Valdez is excited to welcome travelers back in a big way this summer. This travel voucher program will make visiting Valdez more affordable for travelers while contributing to local tourism businesses and the people they employ,” said City of Valdez Economic Development Director Martha Barberio.

Valdez is an idyllic Alaska coastal town, where there’s plenty of wide-open space on land and on the water. Visitors can pack their days with fishing, hiking, kayaking, browsing local artwork, glacier and wildlife viewing, being immersed in Alaska Native culture, camping, discovering Alaska’s history, biking and everything in between. Although big cruise ships aren’t sailing just yet, there are plenty of opportunities to get to Valdez from Anchorage, where Alaska’s largest airport is located. Visitors can take a scenic road trip, the Alaska Marine Highway System ferry or a short, 40-minute flight with Ravn Alaska.

Over the past year, Valdez has introduced programs that not only aid local businesses during these tough times but also encourage safe travel to the town. In July 2020, Valdez’s COVID-Conscious Business Program was put in place to recognize businesses and organizations that meet COVID-conscious health and safety criteria. Since introducing the program, over 50 local businesses have been certified and are ready to safely welcome travelers through their open doors.
