After obtaining 42 nominations,Barceló Hotel Group became the European hotel chain with the highest number of applications, one of the top five companies worldwide, and has been recognized for its impeccable work with several awards.

Once again, Barceló Hotels & Resorts has been chosen the best hotel brand of Mexico and Central America, a recognition also previously achieved in 2009 and 2019.

More than 30 years ago, Barceló Hotel Group started its activity in Mexico and currently operates 21 hotels and resorts in main tourist destinations of the country such as Riviera Maya, Cancún, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Huatulco and Ixtapa in addition to Mexico City, where the hotel chain opened in 2017 its first hotel in the capital: Barceló México Reforma. In December 2019, Barceló Hotel Group inaugurated the Barceló Maya Riviera, a new adults-only resort with 850 rooms on the beachfront, as well as the largest convention center in Riviera Maya, with capacity for 8,000 people. With this new addition, the hotel chain has one of the most spectacular resorts in the destination comprising of 6 hotels and 3,600 rooms.

In addition, four hotels of Barceló Hotel Group in Spain have been chosen among the best in the world in the 27th edition of the World Travel Awards 2020. It is worth noting the Royal Hideaway Sancti Petri hotel (Cadiz, Andalusia) has been awarded two awards:  “Best Beach Hotel in Europe” and “Best Hotel Suite in Spain”.

In Morocco Barceló Palmeraie, a spectacular 5 star resort located in the palm grove of Marrakech, has been awarded as ‘Morocco’s Best All-Inclusive Resort’, a recognition it achieved in 2019.

Although this year’s gala has been atypical, held virtually for the first time due to the pandemic, it has also served as stimulus. Graham Cooke, founder of the World Travel Awards, said: “The WTA 2020 program received a record number of votes cast by the public. This shows that the appetite for travel and tourism has never been stronger and bodes well for industry’s future as global recovery begins.”

The resiliency of the sector during this exceptional crisis is another point Cooke shared in the 27thedition of the awards: “Our winners represent the very best of the travel and tourism sector of the world and my congratulations to each of them. They have all demonstrated remarkable resilience in a year with unprecedented challenges.”
